One two-month voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted days after the death of an elderly lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the personnel realised the passenger was not present.

An extensive search operation found her person the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that travelers and crew on the vessel were notified that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "tragic passing and previous engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The representative said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Occurrences

The vessel initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to take part in the cruise - were transported there for a day trip with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

Family Statement

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left the island after an organised tour without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking club.

"Based on limited information we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She continued that she hoped the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have performed that might have preserved Mum's being".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and she became unwell on the uphill trek," she stated.

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the boat departed, reportedly without doing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or shortly after, she passed away, by herself."

Organization Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive verified that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to aid their inquiry".

He said that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

The vessel accommodates up to 120 guests with nearly fifty crew, according to official data. It was specially constructed to access remote areas of the nation's coast and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Occurrences like this are infrequent, and liners have protocols to document which individuals are getting on or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an possibility," an authority commented.

Vessel operators take these methods very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such occurrences from taking place," the authority further stated.

"This seems to be most likely a shocking - and tragic - isolated incident."
