Israelis have assembled throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over an end to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel answered by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our violent opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will not create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis killed in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was televised on Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to review the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the discussions said that an evening round of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source explained the morning session finished without tangible results, because of differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have yet to produce any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are working hard to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Matters in Discussions

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance distribution
  • After-conflict management of the area

Public Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, young Hagar - whose brother lived through the attack on the gathering, where many attendees were lost their lives and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - explained: "Nowhere seems like home anymore and until every captive come back no one will be secure."

"After we see everybody home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their support for the families of the hostages. Israel says 48 continue in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "It's necessary do every compromise required for the abducted to be released. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now consistently show that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the conflict to conclude in exchange for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people indicated the heavy Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, area and Nasr areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening falls, the fear arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the fighting will come back to us."

Medical Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had accepted the remains of six people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area indicated two more dead people had been delivered. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
