Sovereign to Broadcast Intimate Message on Illness in Nationwide Address
The Monarch has recorded a personal message concerning his battle with cancer, set to air as part of this year's annual cancer awareness initiative, spearheaded by a leading cancer charity and Channel 4.
The royal household stated the King would reflect on his "healing process" as a individual battling cancer, in a video message on this Friday at 8pm UK time.
The message, taped inside his London residence recently, will highlight the critical nature of cancer screening checks to increase the likelihood more people detect the condition at an treatable phase.
This constitutes a rare update on the health of the Monarch, who has been in a course of therapy since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. Analysts suggest improbable the King will identify his particular diagnosis.
Awareness Primary Goal
The awareness campaign each year collects money for medical research and therapies and encourages people to get health assessments to improve the probability of an early diagnosis.
The King's public discussion about his illness, and living with cancer, has been intended to increase understanding and to encourage more people to get checked - and this will be taken a step further with this unique personal contribution.
Up until now the King's main approach to his cancer has been to maintain his duties, preserving a busy schedule alongside his regular rounds of therapy, and he appears not to have wanted to be characterised by his illness.
This year has seen the King, 77, taking several foreign visits, notably to Italy and Canada, and receiving the biggest number of official guests to the UK for a generation, including the German president recently.
Friday's Special Show
This Friday's charity show on Channel 4, hosted by well-known figures such as Davina McCall, Adam Hills and Clare Balding, will appeal to people not to be frightened of getting preventative tests.
Each presenter have been had experience with cancer - Davina McCall said in November she had received treatment for a tumour, while Balding was diagnosed with thyroid cancer more than 15 years ago. Host Adam Hills has previously discussed his father, who had one form of cancer and then later blood cancer.
The show will appeal to the approximate nine million people in the UK who charities says are not compliant with NHS screening schemes, with an digital tool to let people see if they are able for examinations for several common cancers.
In an effort to explain screenings and demonstrate the importance of timely identification there will be a direct feed from treatment centres at medical facilities in Cambridge.
"I want to remove the anxiety from preventative tests and show all people that they are not isolated in this," stated Davina McCall.
Understanding Health Checks
Right now in the UK, there are several key publicly available checks - for major health concerns - available to certain age groups.
A new lung cancer screening programme is also being gradually implemented for people at increased risk of developing the disease, focusing on people of a certain age, who currently smoke or were former smokers.
Individuals may enquire about specific tests, but there is not a universal scheme in place.
Ongoing Efforts
The fundraising initiative, which has collected over one hundred million pounds over the past decade, is financing 73 medical projects encompassing 13,000 patients.
His Majesty, in a message for guests at a reception for cancer charities in April, had spoken of recognising the "daunting and at times alarming situation" for cancer sufferers and their support networks.
But he noted his experience of managing cancer had demonstrated that "periods of great challenge of sickness can be brightened by the kindness of others," as he commended those who looked after individuals with the illness.
The Palace has not made public the specific type of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has undergone. The King's cancer was identified subsequent to he had received a routine operation.
