The esteemed football figure has declared that he is not pursuing a comeback in football management, noting that it would be challenging to duplicate the special mission he encountered as England’s manager.

He expressed his aim to focus his energy toward supporting young people and addressing what he called a dominant downbeat story currently prevalent in the country.

Pursuing New Avenues Away from Coaching

During a broadcast discussion, he was asked about talk linking him with vacant management roles in the Premier League and other leagues.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he replied. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.”

Commitment to Positive Examples

Leading up to the release of his new title, his leadership-focused book, the author emphasized that he is deeply committed about setting examples for the youth, applying experiences from his time as head coach of the national side from 2016 and 2024, as well as his experiences as a parent.

He believes that his experience coaching England, during which the team shifted from being strongly criticized to greatly admired, holds broader applications.

“We had a huge disconnect with the public when we started,” he explained. “People saw us as high-ego players but we were able to turn that around. I saw the power that the team had to bring people together of every community.”

Raising Children and Influencing Youth

Reflecting on his role as a parent, the coach observed: “You want to give your kids the best possible start, but there is a point when they don’t want to listen to parents any more. I experienced that in my house in the same way everybody else will … but I do think this is an important space for us.”

He continued: “There’s a negative narrative around our country at the moment and we’ve got to give young people hope, we’ve got to give them guidance. We’ve got incredible talent but we need to them to find the right role models, the right friendship groups because those decisions have such a big impact on the rest of their lives.”

Togetherness Beyond Division

The former manager asserted that “the British people share more commonalities than differences” but that the societal attention often highlights disagreement.

“One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he commented. “Financial struggles affect numerous communities, fueling calls for transformation. Yet, I’ve observed the capacity to bring the nation together. During the pandemic, I witnessed neighbors helping each other—that’s when the UK excels, demonstrating strength and unity in adversity.”

The manager’s forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is scheduled to offer deeper reflections on guidance and public spirit based on his notable career.
