Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
