England to Start Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will commence their Euro 2028 journey at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they achieve the relatively straightforward entry for a championship taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an England men’s game since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to stage the national team for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, should they win their group, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Opening and Protest

The championship was launched at an ceremony in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host FAs were barracked as they entered the venue by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were raised with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a game that will involve the Dragons if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help engage a wider spectrum of fans.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that do not reach the finals through that route.

Locations and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground finalize the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a championship for the supporters and a showcase of everything we value about the game – its emotion and capacity to bring people together.”

Over 3 million tickets, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are expected to be released to fans.
