Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
